Animal massage is an ancient practice with a long history. Early Egyptian hieroglyphics show animal healers using massage . During the Roman Empire, massage therapy was recommended for dogs and horses by Flavius Arrianus, a philosopher and administrator under the reign of Roman Emperor Hadrian. Horse massage was practiced in ancient China and Roman and later by the Hopi Indians in the America Southwest. In the early 1800's, massage techniques were practiced on animals in a research environment before new methods were used with humans.
